What Games Have "Blown You Away"?
O.K., I got RFOM2 today, and it has been one of those "wow" games for me so far. So, it got me thinking, what games have I played on PS3 that have really hit me as, "this is something special that couldn't have been replicated in previous generations of games"?
For the sake of clarity, I'm not necessarily talking about perfect 10 games. I'm talking about games (or parts of games) that make me think about the possibilities of the new technology (reading back through this, this part sounded really stoner, but I swear I'm not high writing this ).
Anyway, I'm going to list some, and I'd love to hear what some of those might be for you guys (feel free to chime in with 360, PC, or whatever other types of games/systems).

Resistance FOM 1:
Reason: Like many others, this was the first game that I purchased for the PS3. It was visually impressive, but what really got me was the AI and pacing of the game. I was on edge playing through it the first time. You would fight off a horde of Chimera, and then walk through four or five completely deserted buildings, only to be ambushed just when you started to feel safe.
This was also my first online multi-player game. I was hooked from the word "go" when I jumped in my first 32 player deathmatch (which is still a good sized multi-player match even today).
Wow Moment: The first time I realized that the Chimera that I thought I had penned down had circled around behind me. I thought "Oh, s&(t! The computer is actually countering my moves." My expectations for games went up based upon that one event.

Heavenly Sword
Reason: This game certainly had some flaws, but for me, it was love at first sight (or first demo as it were). I've got a soft spot for badassed female leads, and Nariko was that and then some. The game was visually striking (it was the first of several PS3 games that I found my wife watching me play, which isn't like her, and marveling about how beautiful it was), and the music and sounds are on par with some of the very best (still). It could have been longer, the combat could have been a bit more developed, and the plot could have been deeper, but all of that being said, I had a great time playing it. I loved the voice acting (her little sister especially), and thought the overall feel of the game was poetic.
Wow Moment: I remember sliding down the rope bridge in the demo, flying through the air towards the doomed soldiers below with the wind wistling in my ears, and truly getting excited about unleashing some hell and gaining a small bit of revenge (forgetting completely for the moment that I was playing a game, and a demo of a game to boot!).
I haven't heard a word about a sequel, which is a real shame because with a few minor tweaks to the formula, I feel it could easily become one of the best next gen franchises (and a PS3 exclusive for the Ninja Gaiden/God of War crowd).

Metal Gear Solid 4:
When I realized the war was not me, but going on around me. There were two other factions, fighting eachother regardless of what I did. That was just awesome to me.

Uncharted: Drakes Fortune
Reason: I'll admit when I heard about this game I thought it was going to be Tomb Raider with a guy (love Tomb Raider, but wasn't sure I would love it as much without the lovely Lara). So, I rented Uncharted... it was the first game I had played in many a year that sucked me in from the outset, and I found myself unable to put the controler down because I wanted to see what was next (in the story). The game itself was gorgeous, and the music and sfx were great. However, the most awesome thing about it for me was that it really felt like I was playing in a big budget movie. As a kid playing Mario and the like, I would wonder what it would be like to play a game and actually feel like I was playing out the Batman movie, etc. and this was the first time that I truly (100%) felt that way.
Wow Moment: There are a lot of crazy things in this game, but probably the coolest thing was running Drake through water for the first time, watching him come out soaked, and then slowly dry off. It was just visually something I had never seen acurately done on a console before.

One of the games that blew me away was one of the best of all time. The legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time.

I loved their humor in that game, it was such a well done game. I liked when phsyco mantis "moved" my controller telepathically.

I was about to say the same thing Ryan. Ocarina of Time is honestly in my opinion one of the best video games ever made. Beautiful game, epic quest, and addictive story. The time travel element was awesome. Majora's Mask was pretty good too as a stand alone sequel.
Wars may be fought with weapons, but they are won by men. It is the spirit of men who follow and of the man who leads that gains the victory.
