Spud Scrimmage match Tuesday 10/14/08 7pm CST

Postby DWOMT » Thu Oct 09, 2008 2:34 pm

Ok guys, since we've done some pilot practicing and ground war practicing, it's time to try something different before we go back into pilot and ground practicing. I want to have an internal clan scrimmage to see what we've learned so far. So let's have a match Tuesday 10/14/08 at 7pm CST. This will be Spud vs Spud only. I don't like to say this, but no outsiders. The reason being is because I want our clan members to learn to fight together as a team, and we need Spud only members to do this. When the two teams clash in this scrimmage, I want both teams to really go at each other as if we are in a GGL or GB match. I want air power and ground forces to be used. Clan members can use the assigned roles they have picked up in the practices we've had so far. So this is a good chance for us to mesh and see what we can do. So pretending this is a GB or GGL, sign up for this guys. I encourage as many of you to participate as possible:

Blue Team:
DWOMT - Pilot
fish(mobi) - Pilot/Ground
Jezzell - Ground pounder
AFSOC - Ground Pounder

Red Team:
WHO - Turret/ srcamble
Twistedblister - Tank/Infantry
MichaelVash - Pilot/Ground

P.S. Bring your mics, or be able to hear those who are using mics. Oh and guys spread the word about this to others in the clan who may not visit the forums frequently.

Oh and to add to this, there will be several rounds. Not sure of the exact number yet. But I'll probably do CTF, Zones, TDM, Hero, Collection, and probably one straight out all Deathmatch.

If any of you want to recommend maps and modes, please provide requests that you think would help. Thanks!

Thanks for the sign up guys. We definitely need to get more. I want this to feel like a GB/GGL battle to really and truly practice.

Thanks fish! By the way guys, I just had another idea, and TB maybe you can use this idea to better coordinate our GB battles. I think we should pre-assign the roles for people who are signing up. If you look at the teams so far for this scrimmage, I am assigned as a Pilot, and TB you're assigned as tank/infantry because that's what you feel your role is. For others who have signed up and will sign up, tell me what role you want for this battle. Maybe we can use this same idea when signing up for GB matches.

yah i'm probably gonna do whatever is closest lol cuz even though i like using turrets its hard to get to one and stay there for long so i'm probably gonna be switching between turrets, sniping, planes, and regular infantry lol.

well yeah if you are wasting yoru time and not having an impact then jump out of the turret or weapon and jump into the frey. If its all tank and close quaters combat the flak gun is pretty much inefectual.

See Who but on small maps you can screw things up for pilots when you take a plane. For example on the King of the Hill map I could hardly find a plane because people would get one to fly over to the other team's flag after which they would be killed most of the time trying to get back. We can't waste our planes like that, think about this, what if the other team has a person getting into a plane and simply flies in it. Unless I'm mistaken a plane or vehicle won't respawn while it's in use, only after it's destroyed.

Expand upon this further it's 3 vs 1 (we aren't counting the stuff from the middle base right now) so most likely our sole plane will be shot down. 1 plane will respawn at our base and it's still 3 vs. 1. And we only get our second plane back if that pilot kills the right plane. I could be wrong about this as I'm unsure about the spawning thing.

Don't get me wrong if you are in a turrent and nobody is around go ahead and move to another location, if you are at an empty base take one of the planes if you want. Just be mindful that even with the balance whoever rules the air usually wins the match and if we can't get our best pilots in the air there is little the pilots can do to change that.

The main reason I came into this thread: I'm game, I prefer blue team as blue is the best color but doesn't matter. And you can pick the role you think I'm best suited for. As you saw I am quite efficient in a death match on foot.

Vash is right, we should watch the use of Warhawks because we need them. Air power is key to winning a fight. I don't want Warhawks being used to allow them to either fall into enemy hands or being destroyed while our pilots are without planes. It messes up the balance. So good points Vash.

Also Vash, I will put you and fish as both Pilot/Ground. It's both your decisions in the heat of battle which you feel is needed more, but when the need arises, you both are entitled to Warhawks over anyone else who is a non-pilot.

And I put Vash on the red team because I realized the Blue team has more pilots so far, so I want to try and balance it out.

You can sign me up for this one. I usually stay out of the sky, but if there is something useful you need me to do, I'll do it.

I think we should assign someone the role of "TOW vulture" so the dirty bastards can't camp on those bad boys (we do it first)!

Oh I know TB, I'm not talking about when he's asking our role. But I mean once one has their role set they need to be mindful of what everyone else's role is. If someone takes one of our two planes and a pilot takes the other I'm left without a way to fulfill my role. And with the teams we've faced that has destroyed us. If there is a spare plane and all of our pilots are already in the air and you fly well, by all means get in it if the need arises. But aside from that, You hurt the pilots who have just been shot down or get shot down and then you can hurt the other players on the ground who were counting on you.

In many of the maps this won't be an issue as most are fairly large. And I know this all may sound harsh, but in order for this strategy of giving out roles to work, we have to all buy into it. Because if I don't follow my role, the people on the ground will have a hawk on them, and if the people going to capture the flag or cores don't follow their role, we simply can't win the round no matter how well our pilots do. I'm just saying a strategy like this involves a lot of people doing exactly what they are supposed to be doing. For example the oddly named Vash maneuver from practice the other night. Without a person in the passenger's seat who does not have the flag or cores, but does have a rocket launcher the move doesn't work. I mean yeah, the guy on the machine gun could get out, but I think it's much more preferred to have a 3rd person there so the jeep can still defend its self.

Ok yeah but can we count on all palyers being mindful enough to know thier duties see whats going on know the right players are in thier position or vehicales and then jump in.

that is why i thought a generl coordianator might be good that base camps at home and defends the home base if its say zones or ctf and watches the enemy.

no its not harsh and yes it makes snese but what if say the ones who know thier roles dont show and other unplaned for issues. I have this difficult time filling games sometimes right now its not a probablem except for our weekday challanges. Yes each situation will detremine the respnose. and we cant always win but we can casuse an effect that may benifit the game via death sacrifice. or blocking. we just need more active members knowing or having a general outline. and being prepared to do somthing specific.
