kind of underwhelming if only in presenttation. the fact we are tracking this huge mass through space and are acknowladging its close passing of our planet is kind of profund. happy space boulder day :_)

Yeah the Russians got a little scare, but the little undetected nugget (about 50' in diameter) that airburst over Chelyabinsk is actually unrelated to 2012 DA14 that went by around 2:30 pm eastern today.

Still quite the wake up call tho as no one knew about that meteor, luckily it air burst at around 20 or so miles and the damage was caused by the shock wave, a ground hit in a populated area would have been much worse.

would have been interesting tho, or even if the big one would've hit..
i'm not saying i like the idea of a lot of people dying (tho perhaps it would be good for nature..) but for science, and i'm curious how the world and it's leaders would react on it. and of course what kind of effect it would have on everything.

Yeah it would be interesting to see how it works out.. Though scary. And not that I want a lot of people dying either but the world is slightly over populated. Too bad the only thing we are doing about it is populating it more.

That's my point, I'm just way to curious as tohow would everything change. To be honest, maybe I'm a little disappointed that it didn't hit.. I know it is morally wrong, but I can't help it.
Change can be good right?

I honestly thought the Saiyans arrived when I saw that meteor

it was pretty close in cosmic terms, and did pass within our satellites in orbit

Nymph let the pain go man.

Nood are those the lizard people from beneath the earth?

nice one fish.

yeah fish can correct me drew becase i know he has some chops in this departemnt. i think between us and Jupiter or maybe saturn there is a huge asteroid belt. Most of them are in a steady orbit but nothing lasts forever.

yep tb, you are correct, somewhere between Mars and Jupiter is a boatload of asteroids in the Asteroid Belt, but then farther out you have the Kiuper Belt out past neptune, then way way out you have he Oort cloud where the big long period comets come from (like Haleys, or so scientists think). And dont forget about the centaurs, they cross the orbits of other planets, luckily not ours :yeh:

Just look at what has hit us already, and these are only the known documented strikes

Remember 1000 grams = 2.2 ponds

Zoom in on Portland Oregon and click the big yellow dot... this is what hit there

the Canadians are laughing at our pock marked landscape.

its amainzing to me how removed it feels to be on the ground. I am probably more worried day to day about car traffic then what is orbiting us.
