Stargate SG1 or Battlestar Galatica?

Which should I get first? I'm kinda leaning toward Battlestar (the newer series, should I check out the first as well?) because it's shorter, SG1 is like 150+ hours and there are 2 more series after that.

I like SG1 alot its funny it has lots of action and just a great VERY LONG series. Never really watched battlestar alot. Saw a few episodes but it was more drama then I like. I guess its a matter of tastes what you like more.

Go with Battlestar Galactica... but....

if you have not been up on it and watched every episode (in order) then you will be lost at the end.
Unlike Stargate, Galactica follows a storyline, the search for earth, vs random trips thru a stargate.
Also, if you go with Galactica, you will need to follow up with Caprica, which is the prequel to Galactica and takes place 50 years before.
You have missed season 1 tho, and the new season begins Oct 5th.

To fully understand the story, you would need to catch up on both

So you might wanna just watch Stargate cause then it wont matter.
But Stargate Universe is so much better that SG1, and follows a story line, but then again, you have missed season 1 and the new season starts September 28th.

just my opinion, and I have never missed an episode of either

Well both are reasonably priced. StarGate is like $95 for over 150 hours of show. Battlestar is $150 for the whole thing on Blu-Ray and it's like 70 hours. Before I watch Universe I'd apparently need to watch the second series of Stargate. I have no problems buying DVD sets haha, I just gotta buy a DVD folder thing for Stargate due to the cardboard holders.

Both SG and battlestar are very good series. I probably would watch battlestar if I culd watch it from the start. Like fish said you got to watch BSG from the begging or you will be very confused.

Watching episode 3 of it today. Finished the miniseries and episodes 1-2 already.

Both are good series, but the story in Battlestar seemed so much more emersing than SG-1 because sg-1 is many little stories in a lot of the episodes with the big story just slowly building, whereas battlestar is just one large story that furthers itself every episode, I really liked battlestar =P

I think I'm at the last episode before the movie, just can't get myself to watch it, Seasons 1-3 pretty solid, season 4 has been weird.
