Things i've be meaning to talk about

Postby gabrile23 » Sat May 08, 2010 5:25 pm

Instead of making a bunch of diffrent threads I figured I'd make one big and save on space.
I don't know how much you guys go on youtube but they made some changes. Its not that diffrent but ppl seem to hate it. I liked the thumbs up and down thing it better the stars just simple like or dislike. What do you think?

For thoughs of you with X-box live accounts their considering putting a tv channel.
Here's the article.
According to sources speaking with Bloomberg, Microsoft is in talks with former News Corp. President Peter Chernin (who's currently got a gig at Fox) over bringing a TV channel to its Xbox 360 console.

Beginning earlier this month, the discussions revolve around bringing a full channel of programming to the 360, which would include both new shows and re-runs, all aimed at a "young, male target audience".

The channel would be a joint venture (and would be co-owned) between Chernin and Microsoft. That's all the...news. Now the bad news: it seems that in order to foot the bill for this, Chernin has suggested raising the price of an Xbox Live Gold subscription by a dollar or two a month.Seems a bit steep for something many people wouldn't be terribly interested in, what with the fact their TV sets already have TV channels on them that bring them TV shows. But that's one of the key drawbacks of Microsoft's all-encompassing subscription model, I guess.

That would bring the cost of X-box live to up 12 or 24 dollars a year.
The last thing I heard about was that it was mention in passing that demos where not cost effective and maybe they should charge a fee and make demos bigger. An artilce for you to read. http://www.joystiq.com/2010/04/17/cryte ... expensive/
Id love to hear your thought on this.

.

You guys need to read geohots blog, the first guy to crack the CPU on the ps3. Anyway, dual boot support is not something the Ps3 slim simply can't do. they're all software switches that are just flipped on and off, just like software ps2 emulation and SACD playback. Sony is simply not giving them to you. They could release a firmware update that could allow any ps3 to play ps2 games just like an 80 GB ps3. But they won't. 3:21 was released to stop people from hacking the ps3. it's actually doing the reverse, geohot wasn't hacking for piracy, he just wanted to. Unfortunately with 3:21 sony is forcing him to start working in Custom firmware, which would be far more damaging for the company.

on a more related topic. it's ridiculous in the first place to charge for XBL. it's a disgusting cash grab. DO valve charge for steam? (arguably a better service). Do sony charge for PSN? no. this is the only company that does something so ridiculous, and now they're thinking about upping the price a bit? I would understand the subscription service if it was a bit more like this.

You pay X amount per year. and you have access to all the games on the XBL network.

if it was a bit more like subscribing to say, napster i'd understand it. But they way they're doing it is bloody vile and sinister. Pay this to get the console in the first place, pay this to go online, and then some more for some games. and now we're thinking of giving you a feature no-one wanted and we'll charge you more for it. No doubt the TV channel will be full of advertising even after that.

I just don't understand why everyone has just accepted that a fee for a service that should be free is acceptable. You've paid for the console and the game. why isn't that enough?

And on the subject of youtube i personally hate it, it takes away the resolution of quality. On the old youtube you got a resolution of 1-10 on how good the video is. Now you get a bunch of weak as pudding Boolean statistics. Plus the comment bar sucks now. on a video with lots of views, you can get pages of high rated comments clogging access to new comments. And the website has horrible efficiency, filled to the brim with useless code for things that don't need to be that complicated.

I completely agree with you Tek. You give x-box 50 bucks a year just to play online. They do, from what ive heard, have better service then psn but not much and we get that for free.
They should offer small games and other things that players want and not a tv channel that will play reruns of shows you can watch for free on the net. I hope someone has enough sense to say this a bad idea. no one is going to want this.

The comments are screwed you on youtube. I like that show high rated comments at the top. sometimes their pretty good.
It is hard too read the comments below the video. They don't show them all in the right order so you have too look at them all. Its kinda a pain.
With the up or down vote I think most ppl that voted either vote 1 or 5 stars anyway so I don't know if it changed much.

Yeah i agree guys. i got hosed each year for my payment to paly on xbox live which i never really used that much up until now. and yes sony was giving us the same for free which makes Microsof look much more incabable and greedy. i dont know what i actually get for my payment that is better then sony. hell you even get the BETA version of second life in sony called home. ha. its still in beta. ha. BUT its free.

yeah i agree but i am strugling to understnad the payment for youtube thing. i am confused about this. any way have a safe and forced holiday. i say that but i am still cooking for mom. ha. the whole world is a forced exercise in consumer holiday.s :-) :pick:

Sorry more bad news.

Quote
In their continuing effort to combat used game sales, EA has announced that they will be issuing one-time use Online Passes with all of their new sports games going forward. These one-time use passes will come with all new copies of the game and will allow you to access different features for each title, including online and multiplayer modes. That means if you want to buy Tiger Woods PGA Tour 11, NCAA Football 11, NHL 11, Madden NFL 11, or NBA 11, you had better buy it new. Because if you don’t, you’ll have to pay an extra $10 to play it online. If you want specifics as to how your favorite game will be effected by the Online Pass, you can check out the official website here. This didn’t seem like such a big deal when they did it with Mass Effect 2, because it was add-on content that was at issue. But now they are carving out already established pieces of the game. It makes me wonder how long it will be before this leaves the sports division and moves to other genres.

I was thinking about this today and I realized that you probably won't be able too play online if you rent these games.
EA and other companys are losing money on because of used games. They get no profit from used games sales and more and more ppl are buying used to save money. I know I am. So its in their best interest to make some money off used games. Not that EA really needs it the make lots of money off Madden (current year here) and other sports titles.

What retail stores are likely to do is lower the trade in value of EA games and sell them cheaper to offset the cost of paying an online fee. It may be only 5 bucks but that might be enough. Most new games don't go down in value for a long time so if a new game cost 60 and you can buy the same game used for 40 with no code. You'd still save 10 bucks even if you payed 10 too go online. It's just online not every one wants to play online and you can still play local.
Anyway this just the start eventually most games will be downloaded and their will be no used game market but that won't happen till maybe the next generation of consoles... maybe not.

there will always be a used game market..whether digitally or physically some companies are already toying with used digital media...used games and rentals are very important...specially during a down economy...i already have a couple of ideas on how to screw EA over...but itll take some experimenting
