I Quit...
.... Smoking cigarettes.
I actually thought it would be tougher than it is, but so far it is not that unbearable. I am ending my second day after quitting cold turkey.
The cravings are there and I do not know what to do in the morning or after I eat sometimes, so now after years of smoking, my entire daily routine will have to change.
Before, after I got up in the morning I would grab a pepsi and a cigarette and stand at the back door and smoke, now I get up and I'm not really sure what to do. Same as smoking after meals, now I eat and then I'm really kinda lost for awhile.
All in all it is a good thing, my sense of smell has improved I know, not sure about taste yet.
I think if I can get past the first week I will be doing good, and hopefully it gets easier.

Re: I Quit...
OK somthing i can come with direct experiance and give you somthing substansive to maybe take away. I smoked from when i was 13 till i was 27 or so. with one or two years inbetween stoping and starting.
You must want this. there must be somthing deep inside of you making you understand you have to do this. if you are being supported and urged by ohters for your own best intrest. that is good but wont bring you around it wont make you do what you truly deep down want to do.
I had devloped chest infections leading to bronchial infections 4 times in one year. I was starting to see my health slide. my family has a history of diabetes in the male line and heart trouble in both lines.
I decided and in the past 12 years have stuck to a moderete but freqent regimne of exercise. in which i lost 45 ish pounds. i went from 195 to 150 give or take my monthly floating pound. and I quit smoking.
i lost about a pound to a pound and a half a month in the first 3 to 4 years . it was a slow change. my appearece changed sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo
slowly. it was tough seeing any benifits. i was constantly tempted to give in to bad addictive desires. i might have faltered once or twice. but in the end as it went on it eventually got
easier. 4 or 5 years in i porbably lost the urge. but it was with me a long time. good luck man. it aint easy.

oh man i wish you all the luck in the world, you're doing the right thing, it's going to feel good giving up something as illogical as smoking. I remember from somewhere you can't break a habit but only replace them with habits, maybe you should get a new hobby :).
oh and to answer your question about what to do after you wake up, get a pepsi, put on peter gabrials sledgehammer and post on here :)

Re: I Quit...
thanks guys!!
I am ending another day with out a cig and its really getting easier, the craving is not there so much any more and im chewing a shitload of bubblegum.
@ who, thanks for all the smilies and I did figure some one would see "I Quit.." and wonder wtf!!!
@ tb, yeah I do have a driving force to do this, that would be nemo. He has been on me for along time to quit, but I always figured I have smoked for to long and cant do it, Then about a month ago I got a cough that would not leave me alone, it wasnt constant, but it was there, and I knew the cause of it... smoking.
Then I got to thinking the other nite about where I was heading with my health, did some searching on the internet about quitting smoking, I could never handle the so called "Programs" to quit, figured it would just have to be cold turkey or nothing and I needed to just do it, and do it now. So I did.
And guess what.... my cough has disappeared, my sinuses seem to be clearing up (I have had sinus issues for years).... and guess what else....my house fuckin stinks!!! I never knew my house smelled like an ashtray, and I tried to smoke either in my computer room or at the back door, so now there are candles and air fresheners everywhere.
So maybe this will add some years on to my life.... I'm gonna harrass my kid as long as I possibly can.
@ tek, thanks for the luck man, and it already feels good giving it up
and now im gonna have that song stuck in my head for days....

Re: I Quit...
the stink. yeah i cant go to bars anymore at night with out having to take a shower when i get home.
hang in there. it will bother you for a long time. but eventualy you will feel better and better gradually. replacing a vice with a vice is not great but bubble gum should help with
the hand to mouth fidigiting.
yeah my health was really taking a nose dive. I am better off but i did have to finally just go cold turkey too. it came down to me gettting really sick much to frequently.
Hang in there man.

Smoking in bars in australia has been illegal for years now. it's a good policy.

I noticed that too.
I failed.......
I try, i make it for a while, then i fail....., then i try again
I never realized before how much of my daily life involved cigarettes, there is so much that i do daily that involves smoking, from the time i get up till i go to bed, it maybe hard to understand for alot of you, but there is just so much that i do that is associated with a damned cigarette
I hate it when the voices in my head go silent.....I never know what those fuckers are up to.

Sucks to hear that. But if you just stop trying, you'll never be able to quit smoking.

Cloud is right. Maybe Make like a chart. Like try to not smoke for a whole day. Then smoke the next day. Then skip a day and start again. Do this like for a 2 or so weeks then make it maybe a little bigger gap. Just keep trying. Fill your day by playing warhawk or maybe sitting on the computer here. Idk.
Also may mom's sister used bubble gum and lollipops to keep her mouth busy while she didn't smoke. She successfully quit. She was a hardcore long time smoker too.

Come on fish, get back on the fucking horse! it's like that bald prick dr phil says, you can't break habits, only replace them. re-associate those things you associated with smoking with something different, something productive. Think about the years you'll add, the money you'll save. you can't not do this.
