Fedora is a linux Operating System, like Yellow Dog is.

I have almost no experience with linux (well, YDL), but I absolutely HATE windows. I HATE it.

ok its just to show you what the linux ( redhat/ fedora) desktop looks like if you are curiuos. i know it does nothing to revolutionize the concept of a desktop but you can dowload( you need a good connection) it for free. that is its power. and its updated twice yearly. not patchd but released 2 times a year.

ok, i liked the 3d globe thingy, but did i see a windows 95 start menu?
and yeah the animations are pretty cool even tho that stuff uses up a lot of resources on your pc.

But i still like my vista more, actually think i liked xp better, oh well still got both

Ha. yeah the desktop user switch is a nice animatino but is resorce intensive. i ran it on a 2.4 Celeron and it made the machine a little slugish. This is not the desktop i have although i have been fairly crash free with my Vista desktop. i have this one dual booted with Fedora 9 which has been fairly solid on my machine.

yeah, i have had no problems with vista, xp pro gave me some trouble. I have never really used anything but microsoft products at my house.
Wonder if I can go back to say 3.1? that was kinda trouble free, think i even had a 4gig hard drive, HA and that was top of the line.....

How old is 3.1? I had some windows 95 computer for quite awhile and I was fine but ya, nowadays I would throw a little tantrum if I had to use some old computer.

From 1992 heres your requirements for 3.1

MS-DOS 3.3 or later (5.0 or later recommended).
- PC with 80286 or higher (386SX or higher required for file and print
sharing).
- 3 MB RAM (4 MB recommended) and 386SX or higher for file and print
sharing (enhanced mode).
- 2 MB RAM and 80286 or higher without file and print sharing (standard
mode).
- One 5.25" or 3.5" high-density disk drive and a hard disk with 9.5 MB
available space (14.5 MB recommended).
- VGA, Super VGA, 8514/A, EGA, or video graphics adapter and monitor
compatible with Windows 3.1 (color VGA or better resolution
recommended).
- Microsoft Windows-compatible network adapter card and cabling.

God does that bring back nightmares, still better than the DOS day

Read This - its a history of Windows
