Piloting question (pretty simple..)

Piloting question (pretty simple..)

Postby stickcult » Sat Dec 06, 2008 5:05 pm

So I think I'm a decent pilot in Warhawk...
But I've got a few issues, that main one is being shot at. I can not figure out how to target a missle, and lose the missle that's on my at the same time. I either end up in a spiral, trying to lose the missle (generally succesful), but then I lost MY target. That, or I get hit, and generally don't get my shot off anyway.

My other problem is the machinegun, but that can wait..

You should be using pro flight, much easier to dodge missiles.

If you can master dodging missiles and breaking lock ons in Pro Flight, you will master being able to fire at a target and dodge at the same time. I do it. Pro Flight is designed for this kind of air combat. Sometimes if I am chasing a target while someone else locks on to me, I'll purposely boost closer to the target, let off my missile then quickly swing away to dodge the incoming missile at me. Then I'll cross my fingers hoping my missile hits it's target lol

will simply rolling in Pro Flight, with your crosshairs on my target, get rid of the missle on my butt?

Simply rolling in proflight isn't going to dodge a missile. You really have to see it to understand.

My *** proflight is easier then normal. Normal flight, I can dodge missile turrets at point blank. Of couse in normal, proflight ppl will give you the slip. I use proflight usually, unless i'm outnumbered and just acting as a distraction.

My problem is hitting normal flight ppl, the only way I can take them down is a 5 min chase.

How do I dodge homing rockets with proflight? The usual wiggle doesn't work so well.

Basically to dodge missiles in pro-flight you want to press both analog sticks in the same direction for a half sec then both in the opposite direction you just pressed. So if you push left and down you'd push right and up for the second direction.

what vash said, and somtimes it takes alot of swerving around to shake a bunch of swarms off, sometimes i throw in a quick nose dive while im swerving

Its funny to hear all the reasons for which flight method you choose. Both have their advantages, but in my opinion normal is slightly superior. Im not slaming pro, but in normal I C can easily break locks while chasing enemy planes. Most normal pilots will go into a crazy filppin and flopping when just one swarm is locked on. I do a version of the proflight wiggle, allowing me to keep the other plane in my sight. Repeat as needed. Start with the homing and finish with the lg and machine guns. Also dont start with the machine guns too early, you are giving away the element of suprise and letting the other plane prepare their evasion technique, weather it be chaff or crazy rolls. (This dosent apply to DW, his machine guns are deadly).

LOL yeah my guns are deadly muhahahaha. But yeah I agree with you Pocket. Both types of flight have their advantage, it just depends on the talent of the person using it. I just didn't fly well with normal flight, but then I started using Pro Flight and it felt more right. I've seen some very deadly pilots who use normal flight, and they will make me work for the kill. I do laugh though at the ones who start flipping and flopping everywhere when I shoot one swarm missile LOL. I usually let them finish their flopping around, then when they stop I quickly boost in and finish them with the homing missile. But overall yeah it depends on who's the pilot.

Well I'm a normal flight user...doesn't stop me from taking people out of the skies lol. Right DW? lol. When I dodge missiles I try to do it in a way that will end up with my nose facing the way I was originally going. Once or twice in a match though I will lose a target. That's why the map is your best friend. Take a quick glance and if the opponent is directly in-front of you but you can't see him then he's above or below. Either case is remedied by a quick boost upwards and/or a nosedive towards the target.

Try flying around with the enlarged radar/map too. Then it's fairly easy to see hawks tailing you and either take your target out quicker and deal with them or evade them before they can lock onto you and take them out instead. Saved my tail quite a few times. Every flight mode has its pros and cons which I'm sure you probably know already. If you're a pilot, you probably know which one suits you best.Come to think of it I never really gave pro flight a chance. I only discovered it after 4 months of using Normal so I was pretty much conditioned to be a Normal user. I have used it in some unranked servers to see how it handles and it certainly takes some getting used to.

One of these days I'll get around to actually spending some real time with it. Although I have a feeling it will be a long time before I'm as good with Pro as I am with Normal. And leave those flip-floppers alone lol. I used to be like that. Heck, I still have to use that strategy when they're more than 4 hawks on my tail. Try dodging 30-40 swarms and 2 or 3 homing missiles without flopping around lol.

watch this.

From watching this I got a lot better, and then developed the ideas from this video to my own style. Maybe we could have a practice liek that, where we just have one on one, and just practice dodging?

Also the Normal flight version...
