Metal Gear Solid 2 (PS2)

Metal Gear Solid 2 (PS2)

Postby TwistedSystem » Tue Jul 15, 2008 10:51 pm

Well I completed the second today and before I begin I must say one thing. I was in a great mood that day but on a normal day I would bring metal gear solids score to about 9.2/10. Also this game was made in 2003 and 5 years is a lot in the advancement of graphics so I will once again keep those out of the picture. That being said, heres my review of Metal Gear Solid 2.

Alright lets start out with the gameplay. Theres some new changes this time around. Some are just minor tweaks but they changed one big thing. In this Metal Gear Solid your not only limited to the overhead view when shooting. In the first game you can look through a first person view but you couldn't do anything while in that view. You could only shoot with the classic overhead view which is still here. Instead of only shooting blind though, you can select your gun and aim with it while using the first person view. They give you a stun gun which knocks an enemy out instantly with a head shot. This causes the game to be played a bit differently. Instead of trying to sneak around at all costs it was easier to knock them all out. You still have to sneak and to get a good shot as its tricky and limited to aim you must sneak around just as much as in the second game but it just didn't feel the same. The game is a little bit longer than the first as I took 11 and a half hours to finish the game. The rest of the gameplay is very similar to the first game.

Next comes the story. Now this is where the game really shows how good it is. This games story is even better than the first as it has a more intreuging plot with twists around every corner. The last hour contains the best story telling I have ever seen in a game or movie. This is where the game excells and it shouldn't be missed. It left so many unanswered questions that won't get answered until MGS4 and its killing me.

Alright now we come to the worst area of this game. The characters. They are all very well done except one thing really annoyed me. You get to be snake for a small portion of the game at the start but shortly into the game you take control of a character called Raiden. Now hes not that bad but hes no snake. This sudden character change came as an annoyance to me. As you progress into the story it sets in and is very good for the plot but hes just so girly looking its annoying. I also absolutly hate rose, the character you call to save. Shes Raidens boyfriend so after every save she goes on and on about how he ignores her or something really stupid that has nothing to do with anything. Now without giving anything away I will say that the enemy characters are very well done and make every boss battle as good as they could be.

Now the final section is very short as its just the extras. They have so many extras its unbelievable. They have over 350 VR (virtual reality) missions, snake tails which are more missions, a description of the events in the previous games and a skateboarding game. They also put in dog tags, which you can collect to get bonus items in the next playthrough. They really outdid themselves with this stuff.

All in all this title sticks to the same formula as the first with a great story and forcing you into stealth action. It has a ton of goodies and replay value. It is a great game and fans of the Metal Gear Solid franchise won't be dissapointed. It is very similar to the first game but it doesn't quite beat its predecessor with a score of 8.9/10.

Well I briefly started MGS3 and the girl who talks about movies is in mgs3 but the asian one is in mgs1. I also hated the whole naked raiden part and I enjoyed the story cause it kept my attention and made me want to find out more. The last portion of the game had a ton of cutscenes and codec conversations that explained most of it to me but then it left a ton of blanks unanswered which is fine with me cause it makes me want to beat the rest of the games.

I should watch the story on youtube it got so confusing at the end and their was so much story it was hard to follow all of it. For some reson they caught radin and striped him then you escape and have to run around naked for awhile but its only a small spot in the game. Its still a good game that i would like to play again one day.

It's his codename, Naked Snake, though you probably know that. I have no idea why though...

Well before I reply to your answer there will be spoilers in this response, not to MGS4 as I haven't played it yet but MGS2 and 3 spoilers.

Naked Snake is Big Bosses codename before he was evil. Raiden was the naked one and he was naked because solid snake had to turn him in to sneak into Arsenal Gear but he didn't want Raidens equipment to be stolen by the enemy so he took it and had Olga turn raiden in, later on snake gives raiden his equipment back, including his sneaking suit which was all he was wearing before.
